Opportunity: Associate Director

Seeking a full-time Associate Director to lead a major federally funded project, support department initiatives, and develop high-quality resources for adolescent sexual and reproductive health through strategic leadership and collaboration.

Healthy Teen Network is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Innovation and Research to play a pivotal role in driving innovation and advancing research in adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Reporting to the Director of Innovation and Research, the Associate Director will oversee a large federally funded project while supporting additional initiatives within the department. With a blend of content expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for Healthy Teen Network’s mission and guiding principles, the Associate Director will ensure the development of high-quality resources, tools, and products that meet the evolving needs of the field.

This role requires an individual with proven leadership and management skills, as they will supervise project-related staff and manage complex project tasks. The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive knowledge of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, combined with creativity and strategic vision, to guide the development of impactful resources and products for the field, ensuring that all deliverables meet high-quality standards. In addition, the Associate Director will foster collaborative relationships with partners, consultants, and stakeholders, actively contributing to the department’s growth through innovative initiatives and the pursuit of diverse funding opportunities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate effectively within a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and fast-paced organization, demonstrating adaptability to evolving information and shifting priorities.
  • Make sound, timely, and informed decisions and proactively formulate resolutions with confidence and balancing the interests of the projects, team, and organization.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Innovation and Research to develop and implement strategic and fund development plans that align with organizational goals.
  • Lead the creation of funding proposals and contribute to fund development initiatives.
  • Supervise department and project staff, as well as manage subcontractors and consultants, by communicating effectively, supporting skill development, setting performance goals, overseeing task alignment with project objectives, and ensuring adherence to established standards, including approving timesheets and expenses.
  • Assess supervisee work performance regularly, offering constructive feedback to support skill development, goal achievement, and continuous growth.
  • Facilitate clear and proactive communication with project officers, partners, and project staff to promote collaboration and maintain project momentum.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all project deliverables, federal regulations, contracts, and guidelines, and ensure projects are completed with high quality and on time.
  • Use organizational project management software to organize and oversee tasks, including assigning responsibilities to staff, setting deadlines, and tracking time commitments.
  • Support the development of project evaluation plans in collaboration with partners, ensuring alignment with project objectives, and lead the preparation of programmatic and fiscal reports with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Drive the development of manuscripts to highlight project work, collaborating with partners to explore publication opportunities.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the department.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the organization’s annual conference and departmental strategies.
  • Represent Healthy Teen Network at conferences and partner meetings, effectively conveying the organization’s mission and impact.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned with a proactive, flexible approach to supporting organizational needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Master’s degree in public health, social science, social work, education, human-computer interaction design, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of post-master’s experience in the adolescent sexual and reproductive health field.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing projects with annual budgets of $500K or more.
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years in project management post-master’s, with a focus on successful project execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong familiarity with the Code of Federal Regulations and a history of compliance.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful collaboration with researchers, developers, programmers, designers, and other professionals to drive innovation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising staff within the same organization.
  • In-depth understanding of current trends and innovative, evidence-based practices in adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience in Human-Centered Design or UX design, with a focus on innovative methodologies.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within virtual teams, including experience conducting online focus groups, remote interviews, and facilitating large groups online.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work virtually over extended periods while consistently producing high-quality work.
  • Comfortable conducting presentations and public speaking, with strong facilitation skills for both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Genuine passion for learning and a deep commitment to understanding the diverse needs of various populations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a commitment to frequent, clear, and effective communication.
  • Ability to thrive in a self-directed work environment, effectively managing ambiguity and adhering to tight timelines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple, diverse projects with overlapping timelines.
  • PMP, CAPM, PgMP, PMI-ACP, Six Sigma, or similar certification is a plus.
COMPENSATION

Healthy Teen Network offers a competitive and comprehensive employee benefits package, including individual and family health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance coverage; a 401K plan; and generous Federal holidays and vacation and sick leave. This position is considered an exempt employee. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $87,000- $100,000.

Location

The Associate Director position is a remote position. This position will be required to attend meetings, conferences, and other events located in Baltimore, MD; Washington, DC; and in other locations across the United States throughout the year.

CORE WORK HOURS 

Healthy Teen Network has a 35-hour work week. Staff schedules may vary, but all staff are expected to be available during core work hours, which are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET Monday through Thursday, and 10:00 AM to 2:00 pm ET on Friday.
