Demystifying Sexual Taboos: Education, Science, and Sex-Positive Christianity
April 2022
Religious values often shape our perspectives on sex and sexuality. How can we explore the impact of religious beliefs on young people, their sexuality, and sexual behavior?
We will identify the discomfort and the resistance—some of it from religion—to sex education and gain skills to ease that tension. We will also consider what is at stake for our students if we are unsuccessful.
Join Desirée N. Robinson, LCSW-C, ACS and Rev. Dr. Beverly Dale for part one of this virtual session that will challenge our thinking as we unlearn and relearn together.
Part two of this session takes a deeper dive into how science, culture, and religion can be tools to discuss sexuality and faith.
We will use a case study to apply what we learned in part one, focusing on the many positive things connecting religion and sexuality, and to gain the skills to advocate for young people’s freedom to live fulfilling, healthy lives.
These sessions were brought to you by the True You Maryland project.
